COVID-19 and going back to university in London

With September’s traditional term time approaching fast, many universities have published their plans for welcoming students back to commence the new academic year. Given the fact we are still in the middle of a global pandemic there are certain guidelines and new policies that these institutions are adopting to ensure the wellbeing of their students.

Student Luxe believe the majority of universities & colleges will be implementing a duo of campus-based seminars (in small groups) and online lectures to ensure that students still receive the highest quality education possible. We think most universities will follow this game plan at least for the first semester, and then evaluate the situation further down the line.

Here are some quotes from some of London’s top universities which seem to support this position.

We are planning for the 2020/21 academic year to start as scheduled and putting detailed arrangements in place to protect the health and wellbeing of our students and staff in line with UK Government guidance.
— King's College London

Small in-person classes, seminars, and tutorial groups will run on campus, all in socially distanced environments. Lectures will be delivered online throughout the Michaelmas Term, and they will be recorded and made available for students to access.
— LSE, London School of Economics

Our campus will be open. Your safety is paramount and as the pandemic progresses, social distancing requirements will guide how much teaching we can deliver face to face at any given time. In order to give you the best education, we will support your learning through high-quality online lectures to ensure you can get to grips with the material you’re working on before you discuss your ideas with your tutors and your peers.
— UCL, University College London

We understand that you might be thinking about what will happen in the new academic year, and if the Student Luxe team can point you in the right direction let us know.

Our advice would be to keep checking your university or college’s COVID-19 resource page for the latest information and updates.
